French Toast with Pistachio Cream

Hello everyone, and happy new year! We’re back with another recipe, and we’re kicking 2025 off strong with one of the best breakfast foods of all time: french toast.

Who wants to feel like royalty every day? I know I want to.

We talk about kindness a lot here at Nuttinosh, and it’s one of our brand values. When we ship out our orders of pistachio butter, we like to include little kindness cards of something we can do to make someone else’s day a little brighter! Small gestures like giving a heartfelt compliment, tipping a little extra at the restaurant, or lending a helping hand to a friend during a tough time can all make a bigger difference than we realize!

That’s what this French Toast with Pistachio Cream makes me think of - it’s such a joyful recipe, and a great way to spread the love to our family, friends and loved ones on a regular morning. Maybe the weather is crummy. Make some french toast. Maybe Kuldeep has had some stressful days at work. Make some french toast. Maybe I’ve had a long week, and could just use a little happiness in my morning. Make some french toast!

And really, our Nuttinosh takes this recipe up a notch. Pistachio butter and french toast are a match made in heaven! We get richness, we get savory, we get our morning protein in from the pistachio butter, we get all of the good things that a hearty breakfast should be.

I’m excited to share this one! Here is our French Toast with Pistachio Cream:

Let’s Break It Down! Here’s what you need for your French Toast:

A thick-cut bread of choice. Thicker sliced bread often makes the best french toast because it can soak up our coating and get a beautifully toasted exterior. I prefer to use a brioche, or a challah!

Eggs and Milk. If you’re a french toast connoisseur, you know that we need our eggs and milk to make our bread coating. This mixture is integral to french toast, and making sure our edges toast through properly.

Nuttinosh Roasted Pistachio Butter. Putting the “pistachio” in our Pistachio French Toast, our Nuttinosh is the key element! I typically use our original Roasted Pistachio Butter for this recipe.

Honey. The touch of honey makes the perfect little addition of sweetness to our french toast, and is a tasty balance with our pistachio butter.

I like making these breakfast recipes because you can often customize them as you like! Top these toasts with raspberries, blueberries, an extra dollop of Nuttinosh pistachio butter, a dust of cinnamon, or more chopped pistachios - everyone can pick their favorite to enjoy.

Even if the family is just sitting down for another breakfast together, this French Toast with Pistachio Cream can make any breakfast feel like a special occasion!

Why Pistachio Butter Makes a Great French Toast Topping

Pistachio butter brings a roasted, nutty richness that a plain syrup or butter pat can't match. Because it's already smooth and spreadable, it melts into warm French toast almost instantly, adding a creamy layer without any extra prep. It also carries a natural sweetness, so this French toast with pistachio cream needs less added sugar than a classic version while still tasting indulgent. Beyond flavor, pistachio butter adds a boost of protein and healthy fats to what's usually a carb-heavy breakfast, making the plate more filling and a little more brunch-worthy. A drizzle on top, a dollop alongside, or blended into a quick cream — pistachio butter works as both an ingredient and a finishing touch, which is part of why it pairs so well with a comfort-food classic like French toast.

How to Make Pistachio Cream

The recipe card above blends ricotta, heavy cream, and honey for a light, spreadable topping. For a version where the pistachio flavor comes through even more, use Nuttinosh Roasted Pistachio Butter as the base instead: whisk 2 tablespoons of pistachio butter with 2 tablespoons of heavy cream (or Greek yogurt for a tangier, protein-rich option) and a small drizzle of honey until smooth. This quick pistachio cream takes under a minute, needs no blender, and gives you a richer, more pronounced roasted-pistachio flavor to spoon over the French toast, swirl into the batter, or spread on toast and pancakes.

Best Bread for Pistachio French Toast

Thick-cut, slightly stale bread holds up best against the egg-and-pistachio-butter batter. Brioche and challah are the classic choices here because their tight, buttery crumb soaks in the custard without falling apart, and their natural sweetness plays well with pistachio butter's nutty flavor. If you only have a standard sandwich loaf, look for a thick-sliced version, or let slices sit out for 20–30 minutes before dipping so they don't turn soggy in the skillet.

Brunch Serving Ideas

This French toast is built for a slower, brunch-friendly morning. Serve it family-style on a platter with the pistachio cream on the side so everyone can spoon on their own amount, and set out toppings like fresh raspberries, blueberries, a dust of cinnamon, and chopped pistachios for texture. It also pairs well with a simple fruit salad or crispy bacon if you want to balance the sweetness with something savory. For a make-ahead brunch spread, the pistachio cream can be mixed the night before and kept refrigerated until you're ready to cook the toast fresh.

Best Pistachio Butter for Breakfast Recipes

Not all pistachio butter is smooth enough to whisk cleanly into an egg batter or a quick cream. Nuttinosh Roasted Pistachio Butter is stone-ground until silky, so it blends evenly into both the French toast batter and the pistachio cream without leaving gritty bits behind. Because it's roasted first, it also brings a deeper, toastier pistachio flavor than a raw nut butter would, which is part of what makes this pistachio breakfast recipe taste more like a bakery treat than a weekday shortcut.

French Toast With Pistachio Cream FAQs

Can I use pistachio butter on French toast?
Yes — pistachio butter works two ways here: whisked into the egg batter for a nutty, protein-rich coating, and blended into a quick cream to spoon on top. Both add richness without needing much added sugar.
How do you make pistachio cream for French toast?
Whisk 2 tablespoons of Nuttinosh Roasted Pistachio Butter with 2 tablespoons of heavy cream (or Greek yogurt) and a small drizzle of honey until smooth. It comes together in under a minute with no blender needed.
What toppings go with pistachio French toast?
Fresh raspberries or blueberries, a dust of cinnamon, chopped pistachios, and an extra dollop of pistachio butter are all great finishing touches. For a savory contrast, crispy bacon on the side works well too.
Can this be made dairy-free?
Yes. Swap the milk in the batter for a plant-based milk, use coconut oil instead of butter for cooking, and make the pistachio cream with a dairy-free yogurt instead of ricotta and heavy cream. Pistachio butter itself is dairy-free.
